Today we are interviewing Ricky Lee Baxter, author of the fantasy fiction novel Gideon and the Crimson Samurai.

Tell us a bit about yourself.
My name is Ricky Baxter, a writer and the author of: Gideon and the Crimson Samurai; a grand action packed novel, available on Amazon Kindle.

Originally from east London, I have always been an inspired lover of japanese concepts and storytelling, and my topics naturally cover the situations we're faced with today. I also am an avid blogger, giving advice and controversial thoughts to the world.

Starting out as a composer since graduating with a Ba(Hons) in music and multimedia, I worked for many independent short film directors for over six years, gaining notable IMDB credits . Since then I have embraced my earlier passion of writing fictional stories. Currently I live in Leeds England where I continue to write short stories, novellas and novels.

Describe the plot of your “Gideon and the Crimson Samurai” in a few sentences.
Gideon Joust (the blonde haired one) goes in search of his missing father, but crosses paths with Kibishi the Samurai. Two find they have something in common, and go in search of the loved ones they seek.

What inspirations contributed to this book?
Anime, Manga, gaming and all things Japanese! This story really is a conglomerate of many great shows and Japanese entertainment. Growing up, I loved the whole idea of Samurais and ninjas, and would create fictional characters in my head.

You wrote the story in play format. What made you decide to take that approach?

In school, I used to enjoy English lessons - especially the ones when we had to read a play, such a romeo and Juliet. Although I write in other styles also, I have a person attraction to the play format. I just feel as though I am in the story better, and wanted to pull others into my world, the same way!

Who was your favourite character to write?
I really liked writing Albion, for he's the most elusive of them all. At first he comes across nice and friendly - however there's always an element of him having another darker motive. It's a challenge writing a character who is two-faced, but enjoyable at the same time.

You come from a unique background, having gotten involved in writing after establishing yourself in music and movies. What are your goals as a writer for the next ten years?
I plan to keep writing, and expanding on the stories, through different mediums. At the moment, Gideon and the Crimson Samurai is being made into an audio book. A great dream of mine is to have it made into a visual of some sort also.

Have your family and friends been supportive of your writing?
Definitely my friends and family have been greatly supportive - even strangers at times. I just finished a phone interview with an American radio station: Artists first.com. It's amazing the type of support you can get, by putting yourself out there.

What do you have in mind for your next project?
I am finishing up a Novella called: Mother Gaia. It's a story about mother nature, who takes revenge on mankind for abusing the planet. It's entertaining, while informative also.

Is there anything else you'd like potential readers to know about your book?
Gideon and the Crimson Samurai will blow you away, to a fantastic world of action, teary eyed moments and spectacular fights!
